The Collab Group's membership has risen from 26 to 33 colleges within nine months

West College Scotland has become the second Scottish member of the Collab Group, TES can reveal. This means that the college group now brings together 33 colleges across the UK, having grown its membership by more than 25 per cent in nine months.

West College Scotland is the first new member since the group changed its name from 157 Group last month. North East Scotland College had been its only member north of the border.

Ian Pretty (pictured), chief executive of Collab Group, said West College Scotland’s expertise, commitment to learners, and entrepreneurial vision would be of great benefit. He added that welcoming the group’s fifth member outside of England demonstrated its commitment to FE across the whole of the UK.

'There is much we can do together'

“There is a lot to be gained by collaborating on solutions for the sector and sharing knowledge across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and we are pleased that West College Scotland will join us in this endeavour,” said Mr Pretty.

West College Scotland principal Audrey Cumberford said: “As Scotland’s largest college, we believe we have a special contribution to make in cooperating with and also learning from the 32 other members of the Collab Group. There is much we can do together. The sector faces many challenges and opportunities in the next few years, but I believe that as a group we can face the future with confidence, based on collaboration and mutual support.”
