Gangland;Poetry

The damp murky streets

Where no one dare go once the sun sets

Are set alight by the crime and violence.

Every street is owned by gangs

The children with their knives

And the elderly man with his shotgun

Protecting his disabled wife.

The screams in the night fade into a vacuum

The gunshot heard but nobody listens

The screech of car tyres, the cry of a mother

Morning is broken, a new light, a new hope

A mother sends the boy to school

She tries to save him from the grasp of the gangland
