THE proportion of pupils who fail to achieve at least a grade G at GCSE has increased in 11 subjects during the past two years.
Results in these subjects, which include English, English literature, French, German and
computer studies, buck the
overall trend of rising GCSE pass rates, schools minister Estelle Morris has revealed.
Business studies saw the
biggest rise in the percentage of pupils failing - an inrease from 4 per cent in 1998 to 4.6 per cent this year.
However, despite a slight rise since 1998, pupils studying single science are the most likely to fail. Just under 8 per cent did so this year, compared to 5.7 per cent of students taking vocational studies exams and 5.4 per cent of those pupils taking Home Economics.
