In your article regarding geography at the Earth Centre (TES, February 6), I did not recognise the course I attended. Any continuing professional development gives teachers new ideas to enliven their lessons, and geography is one of those subjects that already has more variety in its content than most.
What was totally missing from the article was the time spent on argumentation. I spent the second day with the group introducing them to argumentation - these teachers were all willing to take it into their classes and to look for even more ways to improve their teaching - something all teachers should be doing, and for which the Geographical Association should be applauded for providing new and relevant courses, instead of being sneered at for thinking laterally and encouraging cross-curricular planning in schools.
