Give us back a social life

I HAVE been a teacher for more than 30 years, and believe that the profession's morale is now as low as it has ever been.

I taught full-time for more than 25 years but have now opted for supply work so that I can have a life as well as being a teacher.

The main problem in teaching is that dedicated teachers cannot have a life in addition to the job - you have to live it for many hours day, seven days a week.

Young professionals like to enjoy their evenings and weekends away from work - but teachers cannot because of the work they are expected to do at home.

Older professionals like to lighten their workload, but as a teacher this is not possible because of the work required away from the job.
