Scotrail is putting on extra trains, and the Buchanan Galleries and the St Enoch Centre are offering almost 3,000 free parking spaces after 5pm throughout December, and there are park-and-ride facilities around the city.

There’s another Christmas market on Argyle Street until December 23. Grab a bite to eat at Fifi and Ally (0141 229 0386, Princes Square, or 0141 226 2286, the new Wellington Street store, www.fifi-and-ally.com), which also sells a cornucopia of gifts and was recently voted Most Stylish Cafe at the Scottish Style Awards 2007.

Remember the spiritual side of Christmas with Carols by Candlelight at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall (December 16 and 19) or the Royal Scottish National Orchestra’s Christmas Concert at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall (December 22) or enjoy the Scottish Ballet’s Sleeping Beauty at the Theatre Royal (until December 29) or Cinderella at the Pavilion Theatre (until January 26).

Where to go

I love the West End, especially the bars in Ashton Lane. The People’s Palace on Glasgow Green is a great little museum. The University of Glasgow is a wonderful building and there’s the Rennie Mackintosh House for an Art Lover museum. The transport museum (just down from the Kelvingrove Art Gallery) is also quite good.
