The much-lauded MTV awards being held in Edinburgh on November 8, another of the many international events which periodically bring the city to a standstill, are having a knock-on effect on an unlikely victim - the annual conference of the Scottish Parent Teacher Council.
The council’s southern brothers and sisters, the National Confederation of Parent Teacher Associations, attempted to no avail to book into a capital hotel for the SPTC conference. It is also being held on November 8 with topics that include sex and drugs, but no rock ‘n’ roll - yet.
Perhaps it is time to use the coincidence of dates to reinstate the rock ‘n’ roll with the SPTC perhaps becoming an overflow venue.
