God squad

According to William Neil's One-volume Bible Commentary, the point of the parable of the labourers in the vineyard which Mr Collins introduces somewhat mystifyingly into his letter (TES, December 27), is that "nothing we can ever do gives us any right to expect preferential treatment from God. Such good works as we are able to perform are done by God through us, and the glory is his, not ours. God's family must share and share alike with each other since God's forgiveness is offered equally to us all."

Is he proposing that employers are now to be elevated to the status of deity? Or is he thinking of the quote that "a labourer is worthy of his hire"? In either case, in an "informed Christian country" he is not showing a great deal of Christian charity.
