A group of geography teachers and their students won a competition to speak about the subject on the first Radio 4 Today programme of the year.

The group, called the G-team, took part in a special New Years Day edition, edited by listeners, which focused on how to make the subject more relevant to young people by connecting it to everyday situations.

David Lambert from the Geographical Association, said: “The G-team tried to demonstrate the links between the physical and human worlds and the connectedness of all our lives on a global scale.

“It may have been on a little early in the morning, but there is a listen again facility.”
