Talk of quality assurance, self-evaluation and performance filled the coffee rooms at the Aberdeen conference. But it had nothing to do with education. The big question was the replacement for departed Aberdeen football manager Roy Aitken.

John Stodter, director of education and Pittodrie regular, revealed: “When Stewart Milne (the Dons’ chairman) heard we were running a conference the day before the Rangers game about how to make it happen for Aberdeen, he actually tried to book 13 places.”
