Last week, questions were asked in Parliament after we told MPs of John Harwood’s pound;218,700 pay-off after three years as chief executive of the Learning and Skills Council. The LSC conceded it was about the same amount he would have got if he had completed his four-year term.
The following breathtaking reply has since been forthcoming from Treasury minister Stephen Timms: “The Treasury approved the final severance package on the basis that under the circumstances it represented value for money for the taxpayer.”
I think the House of Commons education select committee might have a different view.
