Scotland’s Clubgolf initiative, which hopes to open up access to golf for all schoolchildren, has made considerable inroads with local authorities since it was launched a year ago.

Nine local councils have signed up to the programme, which offers a structured pathway from entry level to excellence, and six are set to follow shortly.

“We must have strong junior golf strategies in place right across the country to ensure that no matter where a child lives, he or she has a chance to access the game,” explains Alan McMillan, SportScotland’s junior golf manager.

“It is extremely encouraging that, at such an early stage in the programme, so many local councils want to get involved.”
