Everybody knows there’s nothing like a golf course for doing a little business.

But while captains of industry sink thousands of their own cash into their swing, students in Cardiff have been chipping and putting at the taxpayers’

expense.

Clearly golf coaching isn’t what the powers-that-be had in mind when it came to adult vocational training, so Elwa, the quango responsible for funding post-16 education in Wales, is likely to put an end to the funding of golf training at Cardiff schools.

The courses had been funded by local government until responsibility for adult education changed hands.

Tory Welsh assembly member David Davies described the courses as “a hole in one at the expense of the taxpayers.” Elwa, too, Ferret hears, thinks there might be more vital priorities.
