A consultation on the future of Careers Scotland in the southern half of the country was kicked off last week, following the decision to hive it off from Scottish Enterprise. The part of the agency which belongs to Highlands and Islands Enterprise will not be affected.
The options for the demerger are to establish Careers Scotland as an executive agency, amalgamate it with another public body such as learndirect scotland, subsume it into local authorities on a regional basis or make it a completely separate quango.
The consultation paper also asks whether careers staff should become part of schools - and how that would affect its role in providing an all-age national guidance service.
