Parents whose children were conceived by artificial means are “better” parents than couples who conceive naturally, Dr Rachel Cook of London University told the conference.

She had compared couples who had conceived by in vitro fertilisation, by donor insemination, and by natural means with families who had adopted a child.

Parents who had conceived by assisted means were warmer, more relaxed and showed greater interaction with their children.

Parents who conceived naturally showed higher levels of stress.
