The gamelan exchange project was funded from a variety of sources. Lilian Baylis secondary school and College E Michelet in Paris have been awarded funding by the Lefevre Trust, a bursary scheme set up to promote the cultural, social and linguistic exchange of disadvantaged pupils from London and France.

The trust is administered by the Central Bureau for International Education and Training. Joint educational, musical, dramatic and sporting activities, including classroom work, are all elements it will consider. Establishing contact with a school in France is the responsibility of the London school.

Lilian Baylis was put in contact with the Paris school by the education department at the Cite de la Musique. Schools can build on existing partnerships, or can establish one through the Central Bureau website: www.wotw.org.uk. Contact Lke Buffery at the Central Bureau for International Education and Training (email:Luke.Buffery@ britishcouncil.org) for further information about Lefevre funding.

The project has also received funding and support from the Royal Festival Hall’s At Home in Lambeth scheme, CfBT Lambeth EAZ, Lilian Baylis School’s gifted and talented programme (as part of Excellence in Cities) and from Shell, Eurostar and the Cite de la Musique.

One of Lambeth EAZ’s distinguishing features is the priority it gives to supporting all areas of the curriculum through the arts - as well as the Royal Festival Hall, it works with the National Theatre and Hayward Gallery, and with organisations such as the British Film Institute, the Young Vic and Tate Britain to play a major role in supporting an imaginative curriculum in the 28 Lambeth zone schools.
