Gordon Marsden has been reappointed as shadow skills minister, Labour has announced.
The MP for Blackpool South previously held the position from 2010 until 2013, when he was appointed shadow transport minister. He was succeeded in the skills brief by Liam Byrne.
In his new role, he will report to both shadow education secretary Lucy Powell and shadow business secretary Angela Eagle. He was first elected to Parliament in 1997.
Mr Marsden was not available for comment, but tweeted that he was “delighted to be back”.
Also appointed to Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow education team is Nic Dakin, former principal of John Leggott College in Scunthorpe. Mr Dakin replaces Kevin Brennan as shadow schools minister.
“Delighted to be back covering Further Education and Skills as Shadow Minister and working with Education front bench colleagues.”
