A Gordon for them

A new club has emerged with the appointment of Gordon Ford as West Lothian’s new education director - and its headquarters is Armadale Academy.

This particular chalkface produced Ford himself, his predecessor Kate Reid, Renfrewshire’s former director Shelagh Rae and Jim Anderson, who is still in charge in Angus.

Almost alongside them are East Renfrewshire boss John Wilson (ex- Craigshill High in Livingston) and South Ayrshire’s Mike McCabe (formerly of Deans Community High, also Livingston).

But fame came early to former heidie Ford, we learn. He ventured into the publishing world with a racy tome on the subject of school timetabling.

Clearly a man of many parts, he also played for Raith Rovers and Livingston Rugby Club and, until recently, coached Linlithgow Rugby Club.

In addition, he is a mean plucker - guitar wise. Clearly, the headteachers’

loss is the directorate’s gain.
