Anyone considering becoming a college governor could take advice from LASER Advisory Council, an independent educational charity which aims to support and develop education and training. The council is offering its first two briefings next February in the early evenings. Laurie South, chief executive, says governors have an important role and a “legal responsibility to up-hold as well as oversee the financial and strategic well-being of colleges. LASER sees this as too important to be left to chance.” Details from LASER Advisory Council, 21 Bedford Square, London WC1B 3HH.
