READING Adrian Mourby’s piece on graffiti (TES, February 26) brought a smile to my face. Many years ago on my journey to work, I was confronted with “Mrs Lack is a wanker” emblazoned in six-foot high letters on a bridge.

The initial shock caused me to consider drastic measures, such as changing my name by deed poll or leaving the area to work in the Outer Hebrides. However, over the ensuing weeks I almost began to enjoy the dubious notoriety it afforded me.

I had learned a valuable lesson. Perhaps none of us is as popular as we think we are - and if I ever find myself getting too complacent, I visit the boys’ lavatories.
