To boost teachers’ writing skills the Government is spending about pound;4 million on teaching them grammar.
From September, 25,000 Year 5 teachers will receive tuition in basic grammar from literacy consultants. A teaching pack and video will be sent to schools and money will be made available for supply teachers to cover for staff attending the one-day courses.
he Government says that teachers who attended school during the 1960s and 1970s missed learning the rules and terminology needed for the National Literacy Strategy.
