Grammar hitch

The Government has indicated that it is prepared to overturn former education secretary Gillian Shephard's decision to allow the first new grammar school to go ahead.

It has told Milton Keynes council that it can ask for the legal notice to build the school - the first grammar for 30 years - to be withdrawn. The new unitary authority, which has been fighting plans for the Pounds 14 million, 1,000-place school, was delighted.
