All new nurseries should be legally required to have a playground, say campaigners who want under-fives to play outside more.

Draft regulations, due to become law in September next year, state that nurseries and childminders should provide access to an outdoor play area “wherever possible”. But the school grounds charity Learning through Landscapes said it was disappointed that the rules were not stricter.
