Grove parents were ever supportive

I applaud the efforts being made by the current head and staff within the framework of the Highfields Project (“Hard sell sees adults hooked”, FE Focus, TES, December 4).

I wish, however, to clarify the comments attributed to David Williams by your reporter which appear to suggest that prior to the present headteacher’s tenure of office the Grove School was poorly supported by the parents at Christmas plays and other functions.

As head of this school between 1966 and 1983, I can say that parents were most supportive.

They attended in such large numbers that other relatives could not be accommodated despite repeating the entertainment.

I understand that there was similar support in the period from 1983 to 1992, some of which I witnessed.
