MENTORS are to be allocated to young offenders in an attempt to keep them out of jail.

A Home Office-backed pilot scheme in Rotherham for persistent young offenders on bail will assign them a volunteer mentor as well as theservices of housing, education and employment professionals in an attempt to stop them drifting into worse crime and drug abuse.
