Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy is probably the greatest rhyming picture-book dog in the world, although I have a very soft spot for Hercules Morse, as big as a horse. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you won’t know or care that Hairy Maclary and his rumbustious pack are 20 years old, his creator Lynley Dodd is about to visit from New Zealand and TES readers can apply for free tickets to meet her.
