Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy

Geraldine Brennan

Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy is probably the greatest rhyming picture-book dog in the world, although I have a very soft spot for Hercules Morse, as big as a horse. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, you won't know or care that Hairy Maclary and his rumbustious pack are 20 years old, his creator Lynley Dodd is about to visit from New Zealand and TES readers can apply for free tickets to meet her. So all the more seats for the rest of us.

The Puffin Books panel discussion evening from 7pm on Monday June 6 in central London features Giles "Purple Ronnie" Andreae and newcomer Adam Stower as well as Lynley Dodd. Reserve a place (first come first served, closing date June 2) with Kirsteen Walker quoting "TES reader offer". Tel: 020 7010 3375 or email kirsteen.walker@penguin.co.uk.
