A new DVD has been launched to help design technology teachers in primary schools. Structures and Mechanisms, from the publishers Promethean, contains 49 lessons combining theory with hands-on design projects.

The wide variety of activities and video clips reinforce English, maths and science. The material is based on nine QCA design and technology units of work for pupils aged four to 11.

Stephen Jury, of Promethean, said: “This course material can inspire the next generation of engineers.”

Perhaps one day they will be inspired to create something as unusual as the tilting Gateshead millennium bridge.
