Hard to digest reaction to poster

My wife is a teaching assistant in a Roman Catholic primary school in Merseyside. She thought the poster on digesting food (TES, Teacher magazine, November 19) was a great way to discuss a sensitive subject.

However, she was surprised when the science co-ordinator refused to have the poster on display as it was offensive. She thought the word “poo” was not acceptable.

What is the point of producing colourful teaching aids like this when prudish, antiquated teachers feel such things are offensive? Surely she must know today’s eight and nine-year-olds have a stronger offensive vocabulary than the word “poo”?
