WHY don’t teachers in private education need to belong to a professional body? Liz Paver (TES, February 2) compares the General Teaching Council to bodies for medicine and law. I assume that doctors in private practice still have to sign up with the General Medica Council.

She also compares the fee to the price of a modest meal. A cheese sandwich is a modest meal. Where does she buy her sandwiches?
