Head dies at school

Police are investigating the death of an "inspirational" headteacher who is believed to have committed suicide in his special needs school.

Neil Sears, 52, died at Meadowgate School in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, on Tuesday after the pupils had gone home.

Mr Sears had joined the staff 13 years ago and been head for three. The school, for 120 pupils aged 2 to 19, was closed out of respect on Wednesday and Thursday.

Sue Brewer, chair of governors, said: "Neil Sears was inspirational and caring with staff, pupils, their parents and families, and anyone who had any dealings with him. He will be greatly missed."
