Head quits pound;100,000 job

The head of one of the country’s leading private girls’ schools has quit after less than a year. Julie Brandreth, head of Merchant Taylors’ girls’

school, Crosby, Merseyside, resigned her pound;100,000-plus post after talks with governors. In a statement, the pound;6,600-a-year school said her sudden departure was to allow her to “pursue other educational interests”. Leo Coligan, chair of governors, added: “It is a private, contractual matter. It was agreed that she would more or less go straightaway.”
