The head of a special-needs school has been awarded an MBE for his services to education in the Queen’s birthday honours list.

Adrian Gerallt Williams, head for 21 years of Penybryn senior school, Swansea, said: “Special schools still play a huge educational role in 2005.

I’m glad the school has won recognition.”

Alun Williams, manager of the national professional qualification for headship centre in Cardiff, was another Welsh MBE recipient. The former head of Duffryn high school in Newport, Gwent, said: “I find it a little embarrassing really. The whole thing is like looking at a list of top 100 films in a magazine, and then disagreeing with them.”
