Ed Balls is right. Senior staff need to go (“Heads’ leaders slam Ed Balls’ ‘own goal’ on spending cuts”, September 25).
I joined a small special school in 1992. It had more than 50 children as well as six outreach staff working in mainstream. There was one headteacher. Our Ofsted inspection reports were excellent.
By 2006 the school roll had fallen to 25 and less work was being done in mainstream schools. However, it now had a school head, an external staff manager, a partnership head, an executive head and a business manager.
