Heads are in danger of becoming the “Billy no mates” of the teaching profession. A motion, backed by the leadership of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, says that a plethora of government initiatives is inhibiting heads’ ability to support staff.
Alice Robinson, executive committee member, will tell conference: “An outcome of this relentless pressure is the increasing number of headships that not only remain unfilled but in many cases unapplied for, which cannot be good for the students or staff in these schools.”
