A HEADTEACHER has been cleared of indecently assaulting girls at his primary school. Peter Hayward, 57, was found not guilty on all five counts after a week-long trial at Exeter Crown Court.

The jury was discharged after it failed to reach majority verdicts on two remainingcharges of indecently assaulting a former pupil and a 20-year-old teaching assistant, both of whom Hayward was alleged to have kissed.

The prosecution said it would consider its position on the two outstanding charges and inform the court by the end of this week.
