Thousands of pupils have stopped eating school meals since new rules were introduced in September to make them more healthy, a survey by the BBC has revealed.

Local authorities reported an average drop of 6 per cent in the number of pupils buying meals compared with last term, with some schools recording a drop of as much as 30 per cent, according to the survey of 59 authorities.
