Schools are to be sent leaflets that offer parents advice on how to make their children’s packed lunches healthy.

The guides are being published by the School Food Trust, a pound;15 million government body set up last year. They also include information for families on the tougher standards recently introduced for school dinners.

Judy Hargadon, chief executive of the trust, said that a typical nutritious packed lunch would include wholemeal bread, fruit or vegetables, milk or pure fruit juice and a yoghurt.
