Despite its woes over exam results, Glasgow’s initiative to reward pupils who opt for healthy eating received further recognition last week with an award for innovation and IT in service delivery for its “fuel zone” scheme - its second award of the year.

Secondary pupils who eat healthily are rewarded with iPods and XBoxes, and the proportion of pupils who take school meals is at a record high of 65 per cent.
