Rowena Arshad, EOC commissioner for Scotland, pointed to the wider economic implications from the study. “Sex stereotyping is still holding back Scotland’s young people. Not only does it limit their choices but it leads to the workplace segregation that results in Scotland’s 15 per cent gender pay gap.

“It also creates skills shortages in key areas such as childcare, plumbing, construction and engineering, and is damaging to the country’s economy.”
