Here’s telling yous

Rick Wilson’s commentary, “What a difference an ‘s’ makes” (TESS, January 11), demonstrated a lack of knowledge of Scots language. The use of the word “yous” or “youse” as the plural for “you” is perfectly acceptable Scots and is listed as such in Scots grammars and dictionaries.

The “brave pioneer” at his local bank was not using slang or adopting a new term, but using her national language. We can only assume, therefore, that when Rick Wilson rather derogatively refers to “people of (Rab C Nesbitt’s) ilk”, he is referring to all Scots.
