A SCHEME to give high-flying graduates placements in inner-city schools is under fire from educators who fear pupils will lose out. Teach First will run in 50 schools in London from September, but parent scheme Teach for America has been criticised in a study which found that pupils who have unqualified teachers do not perform as well. Research by Professor David Berliner and Ildiko Laczko-Kerr, of Arizona University, said it damaged vulnerable inner-city students.
