News comes from the deep south-west that Jimmy Higgins, heidie at Stranraer Academy, is set to retire in August after seven years at the helm, and 14 years in all at the school.
But Jimmy, who lives 83 miles distant in Barrhead, hasn’t done much for the environment or North Sea oil reserves. His daily round trip to work notches up 166 miles a day, and he’s been doing that for 190 school days per year for 14 years.
Maths teachers will already have worked this out - 166 x 190 x 14 = 441,560 miles, which makes Jimmy Scotland’s best example of distance learning and teaching in action, as well as the most polluting heidie on four wheels.
