Fonn ‘s Duthchas, a major touring exhibition on the life and culture of the Highlands and Islands, has reached Kelvingrove Museum in Glasgow where it will remain until June 10. This is a must-see show for anyone interested in the history of Scotland above the central belt. It is packed with dozens of fascinating objects that help bring the story alive in a way that books cannot. Pictish “bling” (in the form of a massive, solid silver neck chain, above); a glass-bottomed pearl fishing can used by travellers and a pair of Harris tweed Nike trainers are some of the items on display. A dozen or more subjects are covered in the exhibition which ends with a short film about the present-day Highland renaissance.
