We may have been a bit previous in highlighting the strange case of Sutherland businesswoman Joan Currie. The chairwoman of the opted-out Dornoch Academy board has been appointed to the board of Highlands and Islands Enterprise by the Scottish Secretary.
The news was roundly condemned in the West Highland Free Press, founded by Education and Industry Minister Brian Wilson, who defended the policy on quangos in last week’s issue and, revealed that Currie had been nominated by . . . none other than Highland Council. This is burying the hatchet with a vengeance.
