Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, a new website from the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority offers facts and figures on the history of the Dales. A timeline charts the archaeology of artefacts and sites from the pre-palaeolithic age to the 20th century. You can follow seven themes - agriculture, defence, domestic, industry, recreation, religion and transport. Sites range from a Stone Age henge to an AA telephone box, with Ordnance Survey grid references and relevant links to the Archaeology Data Service website. There is information to help you plan a visit and 12 stories describing life in the Dales throughout history.
