Teachers and the Holocaust Educational Trust are angry that a poem calling for the murder of all Jews has been included in an anthology. The poem, entitled Jews, by Gideon Taylor, 14, is written from the viewpoint of Adolf Hitler.

Gideon, who entered the Great Minds competition himself rather than through his Buckinghamshire school, said he had not meant to offend anyone.

Ian Walton, managing director of Forward Press, which runs the competition, said: “Technically, it’s a good poem. It’s a creative-writing exercise, not a political one.”
