The initial proposals for core skills were “bounced off the four walls”, Mary Pirie, chief development officer for Higher Still, says. They are now to be embedded in all courses, although they can also be separately certificated.

Communication, numeracy and ITare to be kept and will be joined by “personal effectiveness and problem-solving skills”.
