The number of Scottish higher education students who choose to live at home is greater than anywhere else in the country - 36.9 per cent, against the UK average of 22.6 per cent and only 17 per cent in Wales.

The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service, which produced the figures, attributed the differences to the fact that Scotland has twice as many HE institutions as Wales and a stronger tradition of attending a local university.
