The Scottish Study Support Network is to be reincarnated as the Scottish Out-of-School-Hours-Learning Network. Funding for the SSSN runs out this month, but the new SOSHL will receive support from the Scottish Executive and the Big Lottery Fund.

The new name is intended to reflect the changing nature of out-of-school-hours activities, which now extend well beyond the homework clubs that predominated when the SSSN was set up in 1999.

Kevin Brown, director of the SSSN, told the organisation’s annual conference: “As the Scottish Executive and the Big Lottery Fund move towards an outcomes-based approach to funding activities, rather than ring-fencing funding for specific activities, it is important that we identify what mechanisms or systems may be required by local authorities and their partners to support the continued development of good practice in OSHL.”
