Mark Haysom, chief executive of the Learning and Skills Council, has announced the first big reforms since he took over in September, by creating a new structure of nine regions to simplify operations.
The regions will be clusters of the 47 local LSCs and will cover the same areas as the Government’s regional development agencies. “At present, I have 47 executive directors reporting directly to me and that’s not smart,” he told FE Focus.
Announcing the reforms as FE Focus went to press, he made clear his priority to turn the LSC into a very different type of public body “famous” for its style and passion - an honest, listening, action-orientated organisation.
Fundamental changes had to take place to both the national and local office management structure, he said. Regional directors will be drawn from the existing 47 executive directors, taking the role as an extra duty.
“Every available penny will be spent on the people we serve, not on administration,” he added, pledging that the LSC would cut red tape and “use plain English”.
